Artist Spotlight: Munimuni

Munimuni is a Filipino indie folk band that emerged from the vibrant music scene of Quezon City in 2012. Known for their introspective lyrics and ethereal sound, the group has carved out a unique niche in the Philippine music landscape.

The band’s name, which translates to “to ponder” or “to reflect” in English, perfectly encapsulates their thoughtful approach to songwriting. Munimuni’s music often explores themes of love, self-discovery, and existential musings, set against a backdrop of dreamy instrumentals.

Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut EP, “Simula”, in 2017, which included the hauntingly beautiful track “Bawat Piyesa”. This song, with its poetic lyrics and atmospheric arrangement, quickly became a fan favorite and showcased the band’s ability to craft deeply moving compositions.

Munimuni’s lineup consists of TJ de Ocampo (vocals, guitar), Adj Jiao (guitar), John Owen Castro (flute, keyboards), and Jolo Ferrer (drums). Their unique incorporation of the flute into their indie folk sound sets them apart from their contemporaries and adds an ethereal quality to their music.

The band has continued to grow in popularity, performing at major Filipino music festivals and releasing their full-length album “Kulayan Natin” in 2019. Munimuni’s music serves as a testament to the rich and evolving independent music scene in the Philippines.
