Artist Spotlight: Love Fame Tragedy

Love Fame Tragedy is the solo project of Matthew “Murph” Murphy, best known as the frontman of The Wombats. Launched in 2019, this indie-pop venture allows Murphy to explore a more personal and eclectic sound outside his main band’s confines.

Named after a Pablo Picasso exhibition, Love Fame Tragedy embraces a collaborative spirit, featuring an array of guest artists on various tracks. The project’s debut EP, “I Don’t Want To Play The Victim, But I’m Really Good At It,” dropped in September 2019, showcasing Murphy’s knack for crafting catchy, synth-laden indie anthems.

Love Fame Tragedy’s sound blends indie rock sensibilities with electro-pop flourishes, often tackling themes of relationships, self-doubt, and modern life’s absurdities. The track “Eat, f**k, Sleep, Forever (feat. The Jungle Giants)” exemplifies this approach, combining Murphy’s sardonic lyricism with infectious melodies and guest vocals from the Australian indie rockers.

With a full-length album, “Wherever I Go, I Want To Leave,” released in 2020, Love Fame Tragedy continues to carve out its own niche in the indie music landscape, offering a fresh perspective on Murphy’s songwriting prowess.
